The Warrior Dash is a 3.5 mile run through mud and 12 various obstacles. It was challenging but worth it in the end (you also get a cool warrior hat!). A lot of people are nervous to do events like this but I say- if I can do it, so can you! I hope to encourage all of you to participate in a racing event near you soon! Whether it be a 5k, the Warrior Dash or even a triathlon, having an event to look forward to is a great way to keep on track with your fitness goals! Sign up with some friends- it's fun to train together and to celebrate after the race! If you are prepared, there is no reason to be nervous.
I am no expert, but here are some tips I've put together from my experiences for race day!
1. Carb Load! Yes, our diets tell us to stay away from carbs, but you are about to burn a lot so don't worry! A few days before your race, load up on the carbs- complex carbs first (pasta and bread) and then simple carbs the night before race day! And don't forget the protein while you're training- it helps your muscles!
2. Water! Drink water all the time so you don't get dehydrated. But don't chug it during the race or else you will get a stomach ache and possibly cramps (happens to me a lot!) During the race, take sips of water throughout so you keep up your energy and keep hydrated!
3. Don't drink alcohol the day before. Sounds obvious but I know plenty of people who've done it before their races, and trust me, they regretted it!
4. Eat breakfast. Don't skip breakfast because you are nervous or think you are going to throw up- you will want that short term food energy later! Just don't eat a massive breakfast right before your race. Have a light, healthy breakfast on race day- 2 hours before hand is a good time.
5. Keep an open mind. You might get to the race and find a giant line of people waiting to check in. Or it's raining. Or too hot. Or very muddy. You get the point. You can't predict everything that's going to happen or not happen so just try to go with the flow and relax! You want to have a good mental state going into your race!

Good luck!
