My “get fit” journey began in December 2009. I was an overweight & very unhealthy Mom who decided to take up Taekwondo with my teenager and boy did I discover quickly just how out of shape I was! The summer of 2010 I decided to jack things up a notch and really increase my exercise and spend some time learning about nutrition and make some dietary changes. These two things (along with a lot of motivation/ambition/perseverance) has brought me to where I am today, I have lost 42 pounds and a total of 26 inches overall!
We all love comparison photo’s right??
Here are my before & current photo’s:
My exercise routine consists of taekwondo 4x a week and working out with a personal trainer 1x a week. I will also throw in circuit training, yoga, strength training or running stairs as my goal is to get a good workout days a week. I am now a blue belt in Taekwondo, my flexibility and strength have increased dramatically (I have biceps now!!), I can do push ups and planks where as 6 months ago I couldn’t!
I use a website called http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ to log my meals, it is great because it will track calories, fat, carbs, sodium etc, I find it a quick and easy way to monitor my nutrition. It also tracks my exercise/calories burned as well as my weight & measurements. The perfect one stop shop for getting healthy!
I have a few tips for anyone trying to improve their health/weight/fitness:
-Figure out how much water you need to drink each day & then do it!
-Find a sport/exercise you love, you’ll enjoy it more and it won’t be something you dread.
-Lose the excuse about not having time. We make time for the things that are a priority for us!
-Set mini-goals, it is much easier to focus on losing those first 5 pounds, then the next 10 as opposed to having 30 pounds as your goal!
-Be persistent, know that there will be days where you have to dig deep and find the motivation to eat well & exercise.
I blog each week about my fitness journey at http://www.grooveygrover.blogspot.com/ , it keeps me accountable by knowing I am “putting it all out there”, you can read more about my experience by clicking the health & fitness label on my sidebar!
